Local woman appointed General Manager at £40m Maldron Hotel Glasgow City

HAZEL Galloway’s appointment as General Manager of Maldron Hotel Glasgow City has been a welcome homecoming for the experienced hospitality professional.

After leaving Larkhall on the outskirts of Glasgow to study in Aberdeen in 2006, Hazel’s career in the hospitality sector has seen her work in Scotland and throughout England in places such as Swindon, Bradford, Winchester and Croydon.

Hazel was delighted to return home to take the reins of the Dalata Hotel Group’s £40million Maldron Hotel Glasgow City which has created 100 new jobs.

The 300 bedroom 4* Hotel is ideally located on Renfrew Street in the heart of the city’s shopping, restaurant and theatre district. The hotel also boasts a fitness suite, five state-of-the-art meeting rooms and the Grain & Grill Restaurant.

Hazel said: “I’m delighted to take up the position of General Manager. When I heard that Dalata was opening a Maldron Hotel in Glasgow I knew this was the job I wanted.

“I love working in Glasgow, it is a city I love and maybe I am biased, but you won’t find better hospitality anywhere in the country. I also really enjoy working for Dalata, their ethos and approach to hospitality very much mirrors my own.”

The Maldron Hotel Glasgow City officially opened in August, but Hazel has been part of the project since last July.

“It was a long haul, but we are just so excited to be open and the feedback from guests has been really pleasing so far.

“At the minute I been starting work early so I can host breakfast for our guests. The host will be the first person the guests meet in the morning, and it provides a great opportunity for feedback.

“Although my position requires a lot of managerial duties, I really love the service element of the job and checking in on our guests to make sure they are having a great time.

“For anyone looking at a career in hospitality I would say this is something you really must love doing.”

With over 11 years’ experience in the industry, Hazel is confident she knows what makes a good hotel stay for guests.

“It’s about friendly and approachable service and being able to strike the balance of being attentive without bothering guests. Cleanliness is also very important, especially in this Covid-era as is good quality food and a great night’s sleep.”

Hazel, who is a keen musician and enjoys playing the flute, piano, saxophone and drums had initially wanted to be a music teacher but she very much enjoys how the new Maldron hotel is hitting the right note with guests in Glasgow.

“The feedback from guests is that our staff are super-friendly which is great for me to hear. We really want our guests to enjoy their stay, we are based in the heart of Glasgow with great shopping, dining and entertainment on our doorstep.

“I’m so pleased I chose a career in hospitality, and I am delighted to be back working in Glasgow – it’s been a great homecoming.”

The Dalata Hotel Group operates 45 hotels across the UK and Ireland with a further nine hotels under construction. Maldron Hotel Glasgow City is the company’s first hotel in Scotland.
