AWARD-winning consulting civil, structural and conservation engineering practice, Will Rudd Davidson has today announced the appointment, in its Edinburgh practice, of two new directors, through the internal promotions of Alan Lamb and Even Sørgjerd.

Both Alan and Even bring a great deal of in-depth knowledge and expertise to their new roles in which they will continue to lead the team in delivering high quality projects for Will Rudd clients; and will be central to developing strategies that will take the business forward.

Alan, a Chartered Structural Engineer and also a SER certifier of design, joined the firm as a graduate engineer 16 years ago. His experience spans commercial and residential developments; educational buildings design; redevelopment and refurbishment of historical buildings; as well as drainage infrastructure and road design, bridge engineering and the design of large temporary works.

Speaking on his appointment, Alan said: “I feel hugely privileged and proud of having been asked to take on the role of Director at Will Rudd. I joined the firm straight from university and I have always been in awe of the WRD Directors for their extensive technical knowledge; ability to run large teams and, importantly, their energy in promoting the company within the industry and supporting their staff. I feel honoured that the current directors have seen some of these same qualities in me.”

With a significant focus on structural and civil engineering design and technical review, Even, who joined the practice in 2016, has become an integral part of the Will Rudd team, managing a team of engineers and technicians and acting as client liaison. In addition to being a Chartered Structural Engineer, Even is a SER certifier of design.

Even commented: “I am delighted to be offered this opportunity. The challenges associated with achieving net-zero targets mean that there is now a much greater emphasis on the re-use of the existing built environment. What first attracted me to Will Rudd was its track record in this area.

“Working with our tremendously talented team and with our collaborators and clients across the industry, Will Rudd offers solutions to address some of the climate challenges. It is extremely satisfying to be working on refurbishment and heritage projects—projects that will improve our clients’ building stock and the lives of residents and the public at large.”

The appointments come at a busy time for the privately owned engineering consultancy, which continues to win a wide range of work on prestigious private and public projects. Among the firm’s projects are the multi-award-winning Laidlaw Music Centre at the University of St Andrews; regeneration of the category-A listed Old Royal Infirmary for the University of Edinburgh’s Future Institute; and the ongoing refurbishment of the King’s Theatre in Edinburgh. Current housing projects include developments at Powderhall, a regeneration site; and also the new housing development on the site of the former Silverlea Care Home at Muirhouse, Edinburgh.

Gillian Ogilvie, Managing Director, Will Rudd, Edinburgh said:

“I am delighted that Alan and Even are stepping up to Directorships in the practice. Both have been key players in the Will Rudd team for some time and their appointment helps us strengthen the management team and build on our current successes.

“Looking to the future we are delighted to be bringing through the next generation of Directors to ensure Will Rudd continues to be a practice that cultivates and develops its staff to fulfil their potential. Alan’s background in housebuilding and civil engineering allows us to develop that part of the business further. Even comes with a proven track record of delivering complex and varied projects and will further enhance our ability to deliver technically challenging sites for our clients.”
