INDEPENDENT Scottish legal firm Lindsays has hit a new record in the growth of its Family Law team with the appointment of a new Partner.
Caroline Mackintosh has today (Wednesday) taken up the role based in Perth after spending almost four years as a solicitor with the Scottish Government.
It is the first time that the number of Partners within the firm’s Family team has risen to five.
The Law Society of Scotland-accredited specialist in Child Law is also the first new Partner to be appointed by Lindsays in Perth since it moved into the city through its merger with Miller Hendry last May.
Not only does the move mark a return to frontline family law for Caroline – but also to some familiar people and surroundings.
Caroline previously worked in the very same offices as an assistant solicitor at Miller Hendry almost a decade ago.
And among the lawyers she will be working alongside are fellow Family Law Partner Richard Frenz, who she assisted earlier in her career.
Caroline said: “I am delighted to have joined Lindsays as a Partner, to be back at work in Perth and at the coalface of family law, alongside some familiar faces.
“I enjoyed my time with the Scottish Government, which involved policy advisory work and drafting secondary legislation in the area of children and education.
“It’s been an incredibly interesting, enjoyable and valuable experience, but I came to realise that my real passion lies in practising the law – and working with families affected by it – rather than being involved in creating it.
“Developing my career as part of the team at Lindsays allows me to do exactly that.”
Caroline advises on all aspects of family and child law, including divorce and separation, contact and residence, as well as cohabitation agreements, prenups, postnups and adoption.
She is also trained in collaborative law and is regularly appointed as a safeguarder, curator ad litem and child welfare reporter by sheriff courts throughout Tayside, Fife and across the Central region stretching from Dundee to Falkirk.
Alasdair Cummings, Managing Partner at Lindsays, said: “It’s a pleasure to welcome Caroline to the team. Her experience, enthusiasm and local knowledge will be a real asset to our firm – and our clients – as we work with increasing numbers of people and businesses across Perthshire and throughout Tayside.
“Our family lawyers share sound and measured advice, often at some of the most stressful times in a person’s life. It is support that makes a difference – and you need the right people to deliver it. That makes Caroline the perfect fit at what is a really exciting time for us in the region.”
Former Miller Hendry lawyers in Perth, Crieff and Dundee became part of Lindsays – which has a long-established presence in Dundee – following the merger of the firms last May. The enlarged firm now employs in the region of 340 staff across five offices – Edinburgh, Glasgow, Dundee, Perth and Crieff.
Lindsays’ Family Law team is headed by Alison McKee, who is based in Glasgow. The other partners are Nina Taylor (Edinburgh) and Jennifer Gallagher (Dundee).
