New College Lanarkshire students secure job offers following successful partnership placements

30/06/2022

Students from New College Lanarkshire have secured job opportunities with Agilisys, the public sector digital transformation specialist, through partnership with North Lanarkshire Council.

NEW College Lanarkshire students have been rewarded with permanent job and placement offers following the successful completion of 10-week job placements with Agilisys and North Lanarkshire Council.

The offers were made at a recent ceremony at New College Lanarkshire’s Motherwell campus, organised to celebrate the contribution the students made during their 10 weeks working with the Agilisys cloud, cyber and website development teams. During this time, the students had the opportunity to support projects designed to enhance the citizen experience and drive digital transformation as part of the longstanding Agilisys and North Lanarkshire Council partnership.

Professor Christopher Moore, Principal and Chief Executive, New College Lanarkshire, said: “The partnership between New College Lanarkshire, Agilisys, and North Lanarkshire Council provides excellent opportunities for all involved. We can showcase the skill and calibre of our students and staff, whilst Agilisys and NLC have access to a consistent talent stream. Collaborations such as these enable all to continue with their strategic and operational goals.”

Agilisys is a longstanding digital transformation partner of North Lanarkshire Council and is committed to developing opportunities for wider community projects, in line with North Lanarkshire’s Driving Digital Locally agenda. In addition to the New College Lanarkshire initiative, investment has been made in 200 data analytics training licences from the online training provider, Avado, which will be rolled out to SMEs across the area. Four interactive ‘Getting Work Ready’ interactive playbooks have been created to help young people aged 14+ prepare to leave school and enter the world of work, training or further education.

Andrew Mindenhall, Chief Executive Officer at Agilisys, commented: “Agilisys firmly believes that partnerships should leave a positive legacy for communities. That’s why I am immensely proud of Agilisys and the students that we were able to deliver the news that we are going to offer three students a paid internship and one a permanent role within our organisation.

“It’s incredibly exciting to confirm that we are going to be doing this again! We will continue to grow the amazing partnership with New College Lanarkshire and North Lanarkshire Council by offering more placements for the next round of students, many of whom were inspired and motivated by the recent presentation.”

Linda Johnston, Business Strategy Manager at North Lanarkshire Council added: “This initiative is a great example of how the council works with our partners such as Agilisys to deliver community benefits for citizens. To be able to offer opportunities to these students in the North Lanarkshire area is incredibly important, as well as hugely motivational to other students.

“The fact that Agilisys and the Council view this as an ongoing partnership with New College Lanarkshire, demonstrates our joint commitment to reinvesting in North Lanarkshire by providing opportunities for young people to progress within the digital and technology sectors.”

Fiona McCrae, who was offered a permanent job with the Agilisys CXM Development Team from July 2022 following the successful completion of a placement with the Agilisys web development team, said: “I am thrilled and excited to be starting a new career with Agilisys. I really enjoyed my placement and cannot wait to get started with the team.”

Jamie Ashton, who was offered a 12-month internship after completing a placement with the Agilisys cloud team added: “After completing my 10-week cloud placement with Agilisys I was sad to be leaving as I thoroughly enjoyed my time and I had gained so many valuable new skills. It was an incredible experience working alongside wonderful professionals for such a great company and knowing our feedback was going to help path the way for students in the future.

“When I was asked to return for a ceremony to present to other students about my time at the company, I never expected to be offered a 12-month internship. I am extremely happy and proud to join the Agilisys team again and cannot wait to get started.”
