Travelodge has undertaken a national expansion programme to build five new hotels across Glasgow which would create 21 new hotels across Scotland, representing a £100m investment and up to 400 new jobs.
Other Travelodge hotels in Glasgow have been earmarked for sites in the West End, city centre, the SECC, Silverburn and in the East End near the M8.

The first of these, the 60-bedroom £3m Queen Elizabeth Hospital Travelodge located on the doorstep of the hospital in Govan, Glasgow, designed by Mosaic Architecture + Design has started on site and is located at the junction of Linthouse Road and Govan Road. The three-storey hotel will incorporate a ground floor bar-café. Completion is scheduled for early 2019.
Neil Haining, Director of Mosaic, said: “This new hotel is located on the remaining site within the Linthouse Business Park mixed use masterplan and sits on the most prominent location within the local street scape, on the corner of Linthouse Road and Govan Road, with the southern corner of the site facing directly on to the main access route into the new Hospital.
“The site was formally occupied by the famous Alexander Stephen and Sons shipyard, which was once an icon of Glasgow’s illustrious industrial past. As times have changed, this has become a disused brownfield site which is now seeing substantial regeneration.
“As the site enjoys a prominent position within its urban context, it provides the opportunity to form a gateway building to this mixed-use regeneration site. A mixture of planting, shared surfaces and car parking will be used to integrate the hotel with a neighbouring village green as part of Linthouse Point.”
A spokesperson for Linthouse Business Park Ltd, said: “The proposed site is located in Govan, an area to the South West of Glasgow city centre, on the south bank of the River Clyde.
“This area has benefited from substantial investment and development in recent years and is currently reaping the benefits of the newly opened Queen Elizabeth University Hospital, which is located on the opposite side of Govan Road from the proposed development site. The proposed hotel development will therefore directly serve the users of the hospital and be a valuable addition to the local community.”
Travelodge became Britain’s first value hotel brand when it launched in the UK in 1985. It is now the UK’s largest independent hotel brand, with more than 540 hotels and 42,000 guest bedrooms.
