Independent Scottish law firm Anderson Strathern has established a permanent presence in Kirkwall, within the Orkney town’s historic ‘Old Library’.
The expansion follows the recent appointment of director Ellen Eunson to the northern isles team, based at the new office. As part of the firm’s plan to grow its presence and market share in the islands and north of Scotland, it is currently recruiting for a new role of Legal PA based in Kirkwall, with potential for future job creation on the islands.
The office is headed up by partner Sheila Tulloch, who has many years of legal experience from the commercial and public sectors. The Orkney native said: “Being from the islands, I fully understand the needs and challenges facing the community today. Having a team on the ground will strengthen our offering to our clients as well as appeal to those keen to do business face-to-face.” Alice Tait, Senior Solicitor, will also be based in Kirkwall.
Situated in central Kirkwall, The Old Library was recently renovated by local accountant and entrepreneur Calvin Cooper, who has developed it into a co-working space on the ground floor, with private offices upstairs. The office building also features an open-plan kitchen/café, two meeting rooms and two adjoining flats available for short-term let.
The renovation has been carried out in a sympathetic and energy-efficient manner, aligning directly with Anderson Strathern’s net-zero ambitions.
Anderson Strathern already has an office in Lerwick, Shetland, and the addition of premises in Kirkwall means the firm is well-placed to offer services right across the northern isles. Additionally, the new office will act as a gateway to Anderson Strathern’s larger team of specialists based in Edinburgh and Glasgow.
Chair Fraser Geddes said: “As a firm we continue to grow our team strategically. Orkney offers exciting opportunities for a wide range of legal services, in which we have the expertise to match. We look forward to supporting a host of businesses and individuals across the islands, on the ground and in person.
“Having physical office space in Kirkwall will undoubtedly bring benefits to the local community. It will provide a professional environment to meet clients, foster learning and engagement between staff, as well as placing Anderson Strathern firmly in the centre of Kirkwall’s business district. Anderson Strathern will be totally immersed in the local business and professional community but with immediate access to experts on the mainland, covering every area of the law.”
Just capital
Meanwhile, Anderson Strathern’s Edinburgh office has recently relocated to a new environmentally friendly workspace off Morrison Street in the city’s Capital Square district, further expanding the firm’s presence across locations in Scotland.
