LEADING training provider, AIS Survivex, is strengthening its construction training portfolio with the addition of its first ever utilities courses.

AIS Survivex, which is part of 3t Energy Group, will begin delivering the Safety, Health and Environmental (SHEA) Gas course this month at its Aberdeen and Newcastle training centres, as well as UCT’s Manchester training centre.

It’s the first step into the utilities sector for AIS Survivex, following the acquisition of Utilities and Construction Training (UCT) last November by parent company, 3t Energy Group, in a multi-million pound-deal. UCT is one of the few providers to offer training across the entire utility sector and AIS Survivex will be combining this extensive expertise with its own to provide an unrivalled offer to utilities companies and its own clients.

Paul Knowles, Vice President of Training at AIS Survivex, said: “This is great news for our own client base and for those operating in the construction and utilities sectors. We previously used to outsource these courses so taking them in-house allows us to pass on real, measurable cost savings to our clients who operate across multiple sectors, as well as bringing new locations online for added convenience.

“It also allows us to diversify into utilities for the first time. With more than half a million people in the UK working in utilities, this is a sizeable new market for us. AIS Survivex has an unrivalled reputation built over more than a decade for making the energy industry as a whole safer, smarter and more efficient through better training. We are looking forward to bringing this same ethos and our expertise to support the utilities sector.

“This new course offering is just the start – we will be rolling out a wide range of other training for the utilities and construction sectors in the months ahead.”

The SHEA Gas course is a one-day safety critical training course, which is essential for anyone in the utilities industry who works on construction sites or at operational power distribution locations, and provides an induction to health and safety on a live site.

SHEA Gas courses are globally recognised and delegates who successfully complete the training become registered with the Energy and Utility Skills Register (EUSR) – an industry passport card required by those working with gas, power and water.
