Scotland’s onshore economy grew by an estimated 0.7% in the three months to July, according to the latest Scottish Government statistics.

The figure compares output in the three months to July with the three months to April, a period in which growth was 0.2%. It matches the unrevised growth of 0.7% in the three months to June, while growth in the three months to May was 0.5%.

Services output rose by 0.8% over the latest three-month period and production grew by 0.1%. Construction output fell by 0.5%.

Professional, scientific and technical services, together with administrative and support services, made the largest positive contributions, each adding around 0.2 percentage points to growth. Other services and education made the largest negative contributions, each taking off around 0.1 percentage points.

On a monthly basis, GDP grew by 0.1% in July. Growth in June was revised down to 0.3% from the 0.5% previously published, while May’s 0.1% contraction was unchanged.

The figures, announced by the Chief Statistician, are seasonally adjusted and presented in real terms, removing the effect of inflation. They cover Scotland’s onshore economy and do not include the output of offshore oil and gas extraction.

The estimates are designated as official statistics in development, and the Scottish Government says all results are provisional and subject to relatively high levels of uncertainty.
