Scottish microbrewery doubles projected start up figures

A Scottish microbrewery is celebrating success as it continues to make waves in the brewing industry after doubling its projected start up figures in its first six months and officially gaining its off-sales license.
Fierce Beer, which was established in May 2016 by owners, Dave Grant and David McHardy, has brewed over 54,000 litres of beer to date, bottling over 80,000 beer bottles by hand.
The microbrewery, which is the first of its kind in Aberdeen, has experienced rapid growth due to high market demand, and is anticipated to increase brewing capacity to 20,000 litres per month by December.
Gaining its off-sales license this week, Fierce has now also launched its online store ahead of Christmas, and will be able to carry out and offer brewery tours to the public.
The beer, which has a strong focus on offering bold flavours that partner well with different foods, outlines Fierce as a gourmet product, which is great for pairing with other Scottish produce.
The microbrewery has already expanded to 24,000 sq ft, and we are looking to double in size in the first quarter of next year, with the addition of 2,400 sq ft of warehouse space.
Export sales have increased by 25% in the past six months, and Fierce has already sent over 10,000 bottles to Holland and Belgium. The company also just hired its first employee, and is anticipating to add to the head count in the next year.
Dave Grant, managing director of Fierce Beer, said: “We are delighted with the success of Fierce, and it’s growing popularity to date. A lot of time has been invested into the beers and we are continually developing them to make the brews better than ever.
“Market demand has been exceptional and we have now secured a contract with Oddbins to supply all nine Scottish Stores with more than 1,500 bottles of Fierce Beer over the next few months. We are also in talks with one of the BigFour supermarkets too.
“The addition of the online store and the ability to offer brewery tours is very exciting for us, and we are looking forward to welcoming faces from across the country to our premises.”
Fierce beers are currently available in craft beer shops across the UK, as well as some Spar and Aldi shops in Scotland. The brewery boasts a core range of 10 beers, with numerous limited edition brews available.
