A highly respected figure in the financial services sector has joined the board of one of the UK’s largest water retailers as a Non-Executive Director.

Brian Monaghan brings 35 years of experience spanning retail and corporate banking, internal control, risk management, and corporate governance.

His appointment to Edinburgh-headquartered Business Stream comes as the business continues to focus on delivering its ambitious growth strategy and purpose-led vision.

Previously, Brian was a long-serving Executive member of Sainsbury’s Bank, where he played a pivotal role in steering the organisation through its separation from Lloyds Banking Group. During his tenure, he was instrumental in developing the Bank’s commercial, digital and data strategies, alongside the build of new products, platforms and operations.

Prior to his career at Sainsbury’s Bank, Brian held senior control and corporate finance roles at the Royal Bank of Scotland Group plc and PwC.

Commenting on his appointment, Brian said: “It’s a privilege to be joining the Board at such an exciting time for the organisation. Business Stream has a strong reputation for delivering for its customers while embedding responsible business practices. I look forward to contributing to the company’s continued evolution and success.”

In addition to his new role, Brian is a Non-Executive Director at MeyGen Holdings Limited, the global leader in seabed tidal flow energy. He has also served as a senior independent advisor to Accenture’s UK Risk & Compliance Consulting practice.

Deirdre Michie OBE, Chair of Business Stream, said: “I’m delighted to be welcoming Brian to the Board at Business Stream. Brian’s breadth of experience across corporate governance, digital transformation and finance make him a hugely valuable addition as we continue to work towards the delivery of our strategic goals”.
