MORTON Fraser, one of the largest independent law firms in Scotland, has been successfully reappointed by two award-winning key players in the SIPP and SSAS market, XPS Self Invested Pensions and Barnett Waddingham.

Morton Fraser has featured on XPS Self Invested Pensions Scottish panel of solicitors for the past eight years. The firm has previously supported the business’s commercial real estate requirements in Scotland. However, this new appointment will extend Morton Fraser’s services into England for the first time.

Alongside the XPS Self Invested Pensions appointment, Morton Fraser has also successfully retendered for Barnett Waddingham. Morton Fraser has supported their business with commercial real estate services in Scotland since 2015.

Morton Fraser will assist both businesses in advising on all aspects of commercial property requirements such as purchases, sales and property management matters.

Fergus McDiarmid, Partner in the Real Estate Team and head of Property in Pensions team at Morton Fraser, said: “The Scottish Property sector continues to thrive in terms of SIPP and SSAS engagement, with SIPP sales recording a consecutive year of growth at Morton Fraser in 2023.

“Our Property in Pensions team is the largest of its kind in Scotland and we are very proud to extend our services with two substantial players in the market. We look forward to working on a cross-border basis for XPS as well as applying our expertise on commercial real estate requirements in Scotland.”

Jeff Steedman, Head of SIPP/SSAS Business Development at XPS Self Invested Pensions, said: “Having worked with Morton Fraser for the past eight years, we are very familiar with their experience in SIPPs real estate. Commercial real estate requirements on a cross-border basis can be challenging, however, we are pleased to appoint Morton Fraser to extend its services into England. We look forward to continuing our work with the firm.”

Simon Foster, CEO of BWSIPP LLP, said: “Following a rigorous tender process, we are delighted to renew our arrangement with Morton Fraser for the provision of commercial property legal services in Scotland. Partnering with quality law firms is an important component in ensuring good outcomes for our SIPP customers in line with new Consumer Duty regulations. Morton Fraser has demonstrated the extensive experience and knowledge needed to help deliver those good outcomes for customers.”

Morton Fraser’s Property in Pensions team has unrivalled experience in SIPP and SSAS real estate and completes many pension real estate transactions each year for most of the UK’s leading commercial property SIPP and SSAS providers.
