Kanthal invests £8 million to expand Perth manufacturing site

Global industrial heating specialist Kanthal, part of Alleima, has officially inaugurated its £8 million expansion at its Perth manufacturing facility, strengthening its commitment to Scotland and to advancing low-carbon industrial heating technologies.

The expansion adds 1,750 m² of manufacturing space, boosting production capacity by around 40% and supporting increased demand for Globar® silicon carbide heating elements, which are used in high‑temperature processes across industries such as electronics, glass, and steel.

The Perth site, together with a service centre in Concord, North Carolina, will play a vital role in meeting growing global demand for electric heating solutions that help industry transition away from fossil fuels.

At the official opening on Tuesday, 24 March, company representatives—including Robert Stål, President of Kanthal—outlined the firm’s vision for industrial electrification and its contribution to reducing CO₂ emissions worldwide. The event included a ribbon‑cutting ceremony, guided facility tours, and media interviews with senior leadership.
