Independent Tex-Mex eatery takes on new residency

A Tex-Mex food company has secured a second fixed location to provide its food residency services in the space of five months.
FreshMex, launched in 18 months ago, will now take on The St Machar Bar at the Aberdeen University campus as its second fixed location in January.
The company is already well established in its first resident location, The Adams and Hawthorn Bar on Holburn Street, and has a great reputation as one of the best pop-up food stalls in Aberdeen, attending many high profile festivals and events across the North-East.
Established by young entrepreneurs Calum Wright, 24, and Robbie Moult, 24, the entrepreneurial duo, who have been close friends for 15 years, have increased staffing numbers from two to 11 in the space of one year, with three more jobs being created due to the addition of a second location.
Calum Wright, co-owner of FreshMex, said, “We’re extremely excited about securing this deal to cater for a second establishment in a prime student location. The company’s success has excelled our expectations dramatically and we are delighted with the success we’ve had to date. It’s been great being able to employ so many people, and we’re also very focused on supporting other local businesses where possible.
“At FreshMex, we pride ourselves on our freshly made food which we prepare on the premises daily. We never use freezers or microwaves when creating our dishes, and we believe it is some of the freshest food out there. Our location at The Adams and Hawthorn Bar operates seven days a week, and with the addition of our delivery service and a new venue kitchen to take over, we’re going to have to employ at least another three or four staff.
“We’re also in the process of looking into investing in Dundee in the coming months, with the hopes of gaining our own fixed premises in Aberdeen in the future too.”
Philip Adams, co-owner of Adams Family Pubs, said: “We are delighted to welcome The FreshMex team to The St Machar Bar. We’ve built a great working relationship at The Adams & Hawthorn and look forward to hitting the ground running with our new concept.
“The St Machar Bar enjoys a unique location and massively diverse clientele that will hopefully be excited by the news. Their food offering is fantastic, with the guys showing a real passion for their product, which ought to sit well within our University bar and spice up Old Aberdeen so to speak!”
The food company is set to officially take over The St Machar Bar in mid-late January 2017 and will be fully operational from Monday to Sunday every week.
FreshMex was also shortlisted in the Most Promising New Business category of the prestigious Elevator Awards, and achieved a highly commended in the Best New Business category at Trend’s Life With Style Awards this year.
