Hardies appoints Head of Principal Designer Services

Ewan Wyllie (Hardies Property & Construction Consultants)

HARDIES Property & Construction Consultants has appointed Ewan Wyllie as Head of Principal Designer Services.

Mr Wyllie is an experienced Principal Designer, having worked in construction health and safety for over 18 years with a track record spanning a variety of sectors, project size and complexity.

An advocate of early appointment of the Principal Designer to ensure that Construction (Design and Management) Regulations 2015 can be actively integrated in a design without compromising the aesthetics, Mr Wyllie has a strong technical background and is a chartered building surveyor with 19 years post qualified experience.

Earlier in his career, Mr Wyllie was Principal Building Surveyor for Hardies’ sister firm Shepherd Chartered Surveyors in its Glasgow office, before going on to work as a Senior Associate at Hollis and then Head of CDM Consultancy at Michael Laird Architects.

Of his appointment at Hardies, Mr Wyllie said: “The chief attraction for me in joining  Hardies was the opportunity to apply the expertise and experience I’ve gained in CDM services to help grow that offering in line with the company’s growth plan over the next five years.

“With responsibility for the management of that service nationally, my remit is to grow the team and build a nationwide network of Principal Designers and I’ve found a real synergy with Hardies’ management team, which shares the same mindset and all of whom are very passionate about what they do.”

Hardies’ Senior Partner, Danny McArthur, added: “We are delighted to secure Ewan for this key management position in this, our 110th anniversary year. His strategic business brain, growth mindset, enthusiasm and cultural fit make him the ideal Head of Principal Designer Services to drive this aspect of our business forward throughout the UK.

“Indeed, following Ewan’s appointment we are already actively seeking to fill three Principal Designers – one each in Aberdeen, Edinburgh, and Leeds – to bolster our CDM service offering in these cities and beyond.”
