Elanic Medical achieves major milestone for new Glasgow hospital

08/08/2024

The distinctive façade of Glasgow’s newest city centre hospital, Elanic Hospital Glasgow, has been revealed as it prepares to open this September.

Located on the former Royal Bank of Scotland site on Bath Street, this purpose-built hospital by Elanic Medical has reached a significant milestone with the removal of its scaffolding after nearly two years.

The 15,000 sq ft hospital, built by Redpath Construction, marks the return of the landmark building to commercial use since the bank closed.

Among its unique design features is an operating theatre located in the former bank vault, transforming the heart of the bank into the heart of the hospital.

The state-of-the-art facility includes two operating theatres, one of which is a spacious ultra-clean theatre with laminar flow technology, and a smaller theatre in the previous bank vault.

Additionally, the hospital is equipped with 12 recovery bays, five air-conditioned ensuite bedrooms, including a specialist enhanced care dependency bedroom, consulting space, X-ray provision, and 24-hour medical cover.

An employee floor features a spacious boardroom that doubles as an education room with AV facilities for observing live surgeries.

Elanic Hospital Glasgow, located above the existing surgical clinic founded by Consultant Plastic Surgeons Vivek Sivarajan and CJ Tollan Sivarajan, will offer a range of elective treatments and surgeries, including orthopaedic and bariatric procedures, gynaecology, urology, ENT, and dermatology.

Elanic management team

Kristian Campbell, managing director of Elanic Medical, emphasised the hospital’s cutting-edge technology and patient-focused care.

He said: “Elanic Hospital Glasgow will offer cutting-edge technology in specially designed operating theatres, including one located in the former bank vault.

“Our dedicated and distinguished team of healthcare professionals will provide personalised, patient focused care, maintaining human contact before and after admission as well as enhanced recovery to help people access high-quality healthcare when they need it.

“Waiting times for many elective procedures are too long for those who are in chronic pain or who need to get well sooner to be able to do their jobs.

“Being in the city centre, close to major rail and road links, and many of the city’s leading businesses will also make the hospital convenient for appointments.”

The hospital aims to address long waiting times for elective procedures and provide convenient access due to its central location.

Elanic Hospital Glasgow expects to treat up to 60 patients weekly, with an additional 12 patients treated at the cosmetic surgery clinic on the ground floor.

The hospital will maintain a higher-than-average nurse-to-patient ratio overnight to ensure timely care.
