DUMFRIES and Galloway College is encouraging its entire college community to join together to mark Mental Health Awareness Week 2022.

In the aftermath of the COVID-19 pandemic, good mental health practices and self-care have become even more valuable and the college is committed to promoting them across its campus.

Mental Health Awareness Week is held 9-15 May and focuses on a new theme each year, with this year’s theme being loneliness.

One in four adults report feeling lonely some or all of the time and Mental Health Awareness Week provides a valuable opportunity to address this important issue.

Dumfries and Galloway College has a number of different tools available that are designed to help its staff and students protect and improve their mental health.

In 2021, the Student Association launched a new online mental health website to help students understand mental health issues and practice self-care.

As part of its on-going commitment to good mental health, the college has also run a series of student-designed wellbeing days, fitness classes, and its Student Wellbeing Pod which offers tips, advise, and resources to support student wellbeing.

Students at the college also have access to a named student advisor who can open access to counselling and other sources of guidance.

The college also offers a range of mental health training options which can be studied on campus or at home through open learning.

The training has been a success, helping upskill more than 500 learners in mental health this year so far.

Further resources are available on the college’s website: https://www.dumgal.ac.uk/mental-health-awareness

Dumfries and Galloway College is proud to be standing with the Mental Health Foundation and everyone who is marking Mental Health Awareness Week both this year and in years to come.

Principal Joanna Campbell said;

“All of us at Dumfries and Galloway College are proud to be marking Mental Health Awareness Week 2022.

“We are committed to promoting good mental health across our community and to providing the resources our staff and students need.

“I would encourage everyone in our college community to engage actively with Mental Health Awareness Week and to get in touch to find out more.”
