Accenture study suggests UK leads the way

According to a tech news article in Silicon Scotland last week, UK companies are leading the way in integrating technology expertise at the highest levels of business leadership. This conclusion arises as a result of a recent study conducted by Accenture. Their research revealed that more than 23% of UK business leaders are now proficient in technology, a significant increase from 17% in 2021. This puts the UK ahead of both Europe (16%) and North America (22%) in terms of executive-level tech expertise.

Key Findings

Interestingly, the study defined tech proficiency as having responsibility for technology decisions, holding a senior role at a tech company, or having exposure to areas like AI, cloud computing, data, or cybersecurity. In pursuing this line of investigation it found that In the FTSE, one-quarter of board executives possess technology skills. This represents a 12% rise within three years. And on the subject of Gender Diversity, the research highlighted the significant role of women in boosting tech knowledge at the top. Surprisingly, perhaps, it reports that In UK companies:

  • 40% of board members and CEOs are women
  • Nearly one-third of these women have tech expertise, almost double that of their male counterparts
