£1.5 Million Expansion Increases Capacity by 40%, Creates 11 New Jobs
EVM, a Glasgow-based family business specialising in manufacturing and installing signage, branded graphics, and interior fitout componentry, is set to more than double its £3 million turnover to over £6 million by March 2027. This projected growth follows a £1.5 million expansion.
Located within the Thornliebank Industrial Estate, the company has acquired the premises adjacent to its existing headquarters. This strategic move increases EVM’s overall capacity by 40%, providing a total of 30,000 sq. ft. for production, logistics, stock storage, and its expanding workforce. The latest investment will also see its workforce grow from 36 to 47, with EVM actively recruiting experienced joiners and carpenters, digital printing and finishing professionals, and installation technicians.
The expansion is being supported by a £300,000 commercial mortgage from Bank of Scotland. EVM has maintained a working relationship with the bank for more than 15 years, with the funding enabling the business to secure the neighbouring property efficiently.
Paul Fennon, managing director of EVM, commented on the company’s trajectory: “We started out as a signage business in Glasgow more than 30 years ago and our range of in-house capabilities has enabled us to scale our business significantly in recent years with continuous investment in our people, skills and advanced manufacturing equipment all accelerating our growth.”
Mr Fennon highlighted the importance of the new acquisition, stating: “Having reached the limits of our existing space we started to consider moving to larger premises and having the building next door come onto the market was a rare opportunity to continue our growth without uprooting the business and team we’ve built here.” He further emphasised the company’s commitment to its team: “Our people drive our success, and as a business that’s been in my family for two generations, we always try to recruit for the long-term. Many of our colleagues have been with us for over a decade, and over the last few years we’ve recruited several of their family members to join our team as apprentices or new-starts. Having more space means we can continue to grow by bringing more skilled people into the business, creating exciting career opportunities, and ensuring our customers continue to enjoy the same service that keeps them coming back to us.”

EVM’s customer base includes organisations in construction, financial services, and the events sector across the UK. In Scotland, the company previously provided branding and signage for events such as the 2014 Commonwealth Games and the World Gymnastics Championships. More recently, its work has included large head-office fit outs for Glasgow-based distillers Edrington and Cala Homes, as well as branding and wayfinding signage for COP26, the UCI World Cycling Championships, and numerous exhibitions and conferences at Glasgow’s SEC Campus. The company also supported the NHS during the Covid-19 pandemic by producing PPE and assisting in preparing Glasgow’s temporary NHS Louisa Jordan emergency hospital.
David Drylie, relationship manager at Bank of Scotland, said: “EVM has built an impressive family business over more than three decades, continuing to invest in its people and capabilities as it has grown. This latest investment gives Paul and the team the space to build on that momentum, create new skilled jobs and continue growing from their Glasgow base. We’re pleased to support them with the next stage of that journey.”
