COLLABORATION amongst businesses will be key to commercial success in 2023, says Campbell Ure, Director of The Alternative Board (TAB) Glasgow North.
The turbulent economy throughout 2022 has seen an increase in businesses around Glasgow utilising TAB to help plan for the year ahead. Bringing business leaders together to share commercial challenges and recommend solutions for each other will become more valuable than ever as we enter 2023.
“We all know we’ll have challenges to overcome in the New Year,” commented Campbell. “But by embracing our entrepreneurial spirit and working together to support one another, we can ensure we make the right decisions. My business advisory boards offer the perfect forum for this, enabling business owners to share commercial and even personal challenges and set achievable goals for the year ahead.”
With more than 20 members, ranging from start-ups to businesses with multi-million turnovers, Campbell has already seen unprecedented growth amongst his member companies in the final quarter of 2022. Campbell predicts his own turnover will have increased by over 65 per cent by the end of the financial year:
“It is a challenging time for businesses whether old or newly established,” added Campbell. “Some of my members have faced recessions before while others have never experienced the commercial pressures that economic changes such as rising interest rates can bring,” added Campbell. “TAB offers a great environment in which business leaders can collaborate and work through the challenges they are facing with likeminded peers. This has been hugely beneficial to my clients throughout 2022 and the growth of their businesses is testament to the value TAB delivers.”
Campbell has supported Scottish business leaders throughout this year, helping them deliver tangible successes to their business. Many are already seeing some green shoots, well in advance of Spring.
With Campbell’s support The Fresh Fruit Shop, founded as a family grocer by the McGuire family in 1976, has radically changed its business offering over the past three years. The business is now trading as the largest fruit delivery service in Scotland and has significantly increased its turnover.
Campbell has also enjoyed supporting the growth of another well-known family business, Wholesale Domestic. It’s driven owner, Brian Toward, has taken on full ownership of the business and is developing an ambitious leadership team, to deliver another more profitable year in 2023.
Campbell’s newest client is the former GM at House of Fraser, Alistair Johnston, who has set up a retail consultancy in Scotland. Within just three months of launching, Alistair Johnston – Retail Collective has engaged with several retail businesses and helped to improve their revenues by sharing his skills and experience.
Peer-to-Peer support is central to the success of TAB which harnesses the expertise of SMEs leaders to drive each other’s businesses forward through regular in person board meetings and coaching sessions.
