MURRAY Burnett, managing director of travel management company Munro’s Travel based in Aberdeen, has been appointed to the executive board of an organisation of which his firm was a founding member – the Business Travel Association (BTA).
The BTA, the voice of business travel is the representative association for the business travel community and travel management companies (TMC) in the UK.
Murray Burnett has worked for Munro’s Travel, which was established in 1903, for 32 years from the ground up, becoming a partner before taking up the position of managing director eight years ago.
Murray Burnett says of his appointment, “It’s important that national bodies have a strong regional representation and that the impact of business tourism in the regions is recognised. The energy, marine and renewables sectors are vital not just to the economy of the north-east, but for the whole country. I look forward to bringing this dimension to a national forum.
“I have a particular interest in the future of sustainable low carbon energy and how our industry can collectively help our own clients meet their travel eco goals. We are on the verge of an energy revolution; moving on from an era dominated by fossil fuels to one where our country runs on low carbon energy. The energy industry locally will play a key role in that revolution, and I hope to bring the knowledge and understanding I have of both the energy and travel sectors to a national discussion.”
BTA industry partners are all influential travel industry suppliers including airlines, airports, accommodation companies, rail, car rental technology, payment and ancillary product providers. The BTA raises the profile of the vital role business travel plays in the broader economy.
Recent BTA activity includes lobbying Heathrow airport to increase the daily cap of 100,000 passengers out of the airport each day and outlining the impact of the rail strikes on intercity business travel.
