The owner of Topgolf Glasgow is changing hands after the US parent company agreed to sell its majority stake in a multi-billion-dollar transaction.
Callaway’s parent company, Topgolf Callaway Brands, has confirmed the sale of its 60% holding in Topgolf to US private equity firm Leonard Green Partners in a deal valuing the global entertainment and sports venue chain at $1.1bn (£838m).
The agreement marks a significant shift for the business, which was previously valued at almost twice that amount when the brands merged in 2020 during a period of rapid international expansion. Topgolf Glasgow, which opened in Rutherglen in 2022, has since become one of the brand’s flagship UK venues.
Under the terms of the deal, Topgolf Callaway Brands will receive net proceeds of approximately $770m. The sale also includes the company’s Toptracer technology division, widely used in televised golf coverage and by amateur players to track ball flight data.
Topgolf, known for its high-tech driving ranges combining sport, dining, and social entertainment, has continued to expand its footprint across the UK and internationally despite broader market challenges.
The acquisition by Leonard Green Partners puts the brand under the control of a major US private equity investor with a long track record in hospitality, leisure, and consumer sectors. Analysts expect the firm to focus on further growth, operational efficiency, and continued global rollout of new venues.
Topgolf Callaway Brands said the deal would allow the company to reduce debt and refocus on its core golf equipment and lifestyle businesses, including the Callaway and Odyssey brands.
