Children’s charity The Archie Foundation has appointed Neil McGregor as its business development and fundraising manager for the Highlands, helping to raise awareness of its vital work across the North of Scotland.
Neil’s own son was born 12 weeks early in 2007 so he brings personal experience as a parent as well as many years in business across the Highlands and Moray.
Most recently, Neil worked in media advertising sales, business development and digital marketing and he is also a keen fundraiser for charities.
He is looking forward to continuing to raise the profile of The Archie Foundation and its work at Raigmore Hospital’s Highland Children’s Unit and across the Highlands and Islands, supporting babies, children and families during a hospital visit or stay, or following a bereavement.
“I am thrilled to be part of the team at The Archie Foundation and look forward to using my network and contacts to support our work in the Highlands,” said Neil. “We provide a vital resource to babies and children when in hospital or going through a bereavement and we need to make sure that as many people as possible know about us, as well as how they can help us to help others.
“My children are all grown up now but my youngest son was born 12 weeks premature, so I have experience of neonatal units in Dundee and Inverness and the amazing work done by the NHS. Having been there myself, I can really appreciate the role The Archie Foundation plays today in supporting families when they need it most.”
Neil is running the Inverness Half Marathon in March 2026 in aid of The Archie Foundation, marking his son turning 18 – having spent three months in neonatal care as a newborn.
Previous fundraisers have included running 10 separate 10K races and a Runway Run, as well as being a member of the fundraising committee for a local mental health charity.
“Each had its own draw and I had personal reasons for each, so I know the importance of telling Archie’s story and the impact it has on the people we support,” said Neil. “Most people who know me have said this is the perfect role for me as it uses my strengths in communication and sales and makes a real difference to others. This was the perfect opportunity at the ideal time.”
Neil will also work alongside the Archie fundraising committee in the Highlands, which is supported by patron Mary Nimmo, who organises successful annual events such as the Moonlight Ball and Prosecco Picnic.
Kelly M. Anderson, head of fundraising at The Archie Foundation, welcomed Neil to the team.
“With a long career in the Highlands and a great network, Neil is a fantastic addition to the team,” she said. “We are looking forward to working together to raise even wider awareness of Archie and drive fundraising to support the amazing work of the Highland Children’s Unit.”
Neil’s formal training is in hotel management and his career has also included managing a hotel on the shores of Loch Earn, as well as working in customer services and call centre management for BT.
Married to Lisa, he has three adult children, a step-daughter and a Miniature Schnauzer puppy called Hamish.
Away from work, Neil loves quizzing and appeared on a BBC Scotland quiz show called Wonderball, scooping the jackpot!
