The LDC Top 50 Most Ambitious Business Leaders has uncovered the stories behind some of Scotland’s most ambitious entrepreneurs for the seventh year running.
Created by investment partner LDC, part of Lloyds Banking Group, and in partnership with The Times, the programme has now celebrated more than 350 business leaders, and each year the nominations exceed the expectations of the judging panel.
The leaders featured in The LDC Top 50 2024 are making a real impact by creating jobs, promoting social equality, championing sustainability, expanding internationally and integrating purpose into their business practices.
They operate from 39 towns and cities across the UK and span every sector of the economy. Collectively, they employ more than 5,000 people and generate revenues of more than £1.1bn.
In total, the leaders of four Scottish businesses were named in The Top 50, with a further two featured as Ones to Watch.

Standout examples from across Scotland included Dr Sally Beattie and Emer Bustard, co-founders of Harthill-based Lazy Day Foods – one of the first food manufacturers in Scotland to move to a four-day working week, and Guy and Leeanne Hundleby, co-founders of Edinburgh-based Strathberry, a modern Scottish luxury brand that now generates 70 per cent of sales from overseas.
They were recognised at a celebratory event at BAFTA in London last night, where the UK’s Most Ambitious Business Leader was revealed among a number of other award winners.
John Garner, Managing Partner at LDC, said: “It’s been seven years since we launched The LDC Top 50 and in that time we’ve had the privilege of meeting some truly remarkable people.
“Our business leaders for 2024 show relentless drive and determination in their growth ambitions, and I’d like to congratulate them on everything they’ve achieved so far.
“This is certainly not the end of their success and we can’t wait to see what the future holds.”
