ABERDEEN-based high-performance timber windows and doors manufacturer NorDan UK Ltd has announced a record 34 percent increase in turnover for a single year in 2022.
NorDan UK has now increased its turnover year-on-year since 2016 and has grown by more than 85 percent in the last five years.
NorDan UK has also recently won the CIBSE Embodied Carbon Award for Manufacturers and Suppliers at the 2023 CIBSE Building Performance Awards.
Organised by the Chartered Institute for Building Services Engineers (CIBSE), the CIBSE Building Performance Awards recognise the people, products and projects that demonstrate engineering excellence in the built environment.
NorDan UK Ltd was recognised by CIBSE for its big contribution to measuring and reducing carbon from buildings and construction across the UK. In particular, the judges focused on NorDan’s longstanding commitment to tackling embodied carbon, the emissions generated from the process of construction and the manufacturing, transport and disposal of building materials.
NorDan’s products are made from sustainably grown timber, using sustainable manufacturing methods, so they are carbon negative at the point of installation. Its windows and doors also have a very high insulation value, so they keep homes warmer whilst needing less energy.
The CIBSE award judges commented that NorDan UK has clearly considered carbon impact on the whole life of its windows and doors, from manufacturing, operation, and maintenance, to end of life.
Two thirds of NorDan UK’s workforce is Scotland based, with 82 people working from offices in Livingston, Aberdeen and Inverness. Some of NorDan’s biggest Scottish customers include McTaggart Construction, Sidey and JR Group.
Alex Brown, NorDan UK Managing Director said: “2022’s record growth is obviously very pleasing and 100% consistent with the wider direction of travel in construction and the built environment across the UK.
“The Scottish construction market has recognised the benefits of NorDan’s high-performance benefits of NorDan’s Norwegian designed timber products since the early 1980s, but we are now seeing strong and consistent growth across the whole of UK.
“While NorDan’s rise in Scotland was due in no small part to the country sharing a more similar climate with Scandinavia, growth across the UK is linked to carbon reduction and reducing the impact of climate change.
“NorDan’s timber windows and doors are very low carbon and have a life span of 60 years, which fits well with rising legally binding building standards and sustainable aspirations in the construction industry.”
