New heat pump centre to open in Glasgow to accelerate sustainability drive

24/11/2022

A BRAND-new state-of-the-art air source heat pump showroom is opening in Glasgow this week, with the aim of supporting people across the city and beyond in making the transition to low-carbon home heating.

The Daikin Sustainable Home Centre in Tradeston, Glasgow, is being launched by Richmonds Plumbing & Heating Merchants Ltd, an independent family-owned company with 130 years of experience in plumbing and heating supplies, together with world-leading heat pump manufacturer, Daikin.

The official launch on today (24th November) will see the showroom open to anyone with an interest in heat pumps. This may be installers looking for advice on training, housing associations or developers looking to better understand the benefits of the low-carbon technology, or homeowners wishing to discuss installing a heat pump in their home.

The centre will also house a heat pump training centre to help the region’s plumbing and heating installers diversify into renewable heating solutions and ensure the long-term competitiveness of their businesses, as fossil fuel heating systems are phased out.

From 10am until 3pm, guests are invited to look around the new centre, meet experts from Richmonds and world-leading heat pump manufacturer, Daikin and learn about the latest heat pump technology.

There will also be a prize draw towards the end of the event, with the chance to win prizes including a 100 towards a meal and Love2Shop vouchers.

Ross Jackson, Managing Director at Richmonds, commented: “Opening our new Sustainable Home Centre is an important milestone for our business and the local community. We hope to see lots of friendly faces on the big day, joining us on our journey to help homes in Glasgow and beyond become more sustainable.

“More and more of our customers are expressing interest in renewable forms of home heating, like heat pumps. Giving them a walk-in location where they can get to grips with technology for themselves is a great way for us to help them find the perfect renewable heating solution for their home or their customers’ homes. With Daikin’s market-leading domestic product range, there will be something for every home.”

Following the launch event, the new centre will be a place homeowners can visit to familiarise themselves with air source heat pump technology, and to sit down with an expert to discuss the best heating and cooling solutions for their home, before they’re partnered with a trusted local installer.

Iain Bevan, Commercial Manager – Heating & Renewables at Daikin UK, added: “Heat pumps have huge potential to reduce energy usage and bills in the home. Over its 15-year lifespan*, switching from a fossil fuel boiler to an air source heat pump can save homeowners more than £3,000 when compared to a gas boiler, more than £6000 compared with oil and more than £9,000 compared to LPG.

“We’re delighted to be partnering with Richmonds in opening a Daikin Sustainable Home Centre together. Being able to explore and discuss heat pump technology and the significant cost savings they offer in person is vital, as is knowing that it will be installed by a highly trained professional – and that’s what our Sustainable Home Centres are all about.

“With lifetime savings of between 24 and 37 tonnes of carbon*, switching from gas, oil or LPG to a heat pump can have a massive impact on the carbon footprint of your home and represents our best chance to make a significant contribution towards our national net-zero targets.”
