AUDUR cable project targets late 2029 or early 2030 service entry.

Korda Networks has appointed Pioneer Consulting as the lead adviser for AUDUR, its planned submarine cable connecting Iceland and Scotland. The cable is targeted to enter service around the end of 2029 or early 2030.

Pioneer Consulting will support Korda Networks in developing the overall project strategy for AUDUR. Their responsibilities include overseeing tendering, bid evaluation, and supplier selection for key elements of the project, such as the marine survey, cable manufacture, and installation. Pioneer Consulting will also provide project management services throughout the construction and installation phases.

Drawing on experience providing strategic advice and specialist engineering services for submarine cable projects worldwide since 1998, Pioneer Consulting will advise Korda Networks on turnkey and disaggregated delivery models. This expertise will assist Korda Networks in navigating procurement options, managing delivery risks, and maintaining focus on the project’s schedule, particularly as the submarine cable industry experiences record growth and increasing pressure on supplier capacity.

The AUDUR submarine cable will land in Meðalland, located south of Kirkjubæjarklaustur on Iceland’s south coast, and in Irvine Bay on the Firth of Clyde, west of Glasgow. Korda Networks also plans to develop a new service delivery site in Glasgow, which will offer multiple onward connectivity options to London, the Nordic region, continental Europe, and Ireland.

A marine survey for the project is planned for summer 2027. Tendering is currently underway for terrestrial fibre routes that will connect the Icelandic landing site to service delivery sites, with construction for these routes expected to begin in summer 2027.

The AUDUR cable is intended to strengthen Iceland’s international connectivity and provide an additional route for data traffic between Iceland and Europe.
