GLASGOW is set to host its largest-ever gathering of electric vehicles (EVs) as it prepares for COP26 – and the event is open to the public.

Visitors to the EVOLUTION Motor Show will have the opportunity to test drive the latest electric and plug-in hybrid cars at the nation’s biggest EV event – and admission is free. Vehicles on display, with most available for test drives include BMW, Audi, Polestar, Kia, Nissan, Mini and there will also be electric vans from Maxus and Mercedes-Benz. Experts will be on hand to provide advice about installing the right charging infrastructure and how to access grants, as well as providing information on EV running costs.

Colin Boyton, Events Manager at GREENFLEET Events, which organises EVOLUTION, said: “EVs are becoming more accessible, more affordable, and easier to recharge. Best of all, they are incredibly fun to drive. EVOLUTION offers a great opportunity for those unsure about plug-in vehicles to get friendly, expert advice, better understand the proposition, and experience the thrill of driving these exciting vehicles.”

EVOLUTION takes place in partnership with Glasgow City Council, is hosted by Glasgow Fort, and is supporting the UK government’s Together For Our Planet campaign, during the COP26 UN climate change conference, taking place in Glasgow 31 October to 12 November.

“With the COP26 climate conference in town, the eyes of the world are on Glasgow,” said Colin. “Actions speak louder than words, and there has never been a better time for Scotland to make the switch to electric and ultra-low emission vehicles.”

Phil Goodman, Centre Director at Glasgow Fort, said: “We’re committed to supporting a more sustainable future, and there’s no denying electrical vehicles will play a big part in that. I’d encourage anyone visiting us on 6th November for shopping, dining or the cinema to check out the EVs on display and learn about the future of driving. And, if you already have an electric car whilst shopping, you can make use of our permanent destination charging points in the multi-storey car park.”

EVOLUTION takes place at Glasgow Fort on Saturday 6th November, from 9am to 6pm. It is free to attend but registering in advance is advised. Anyone participating in a test drive must provide a valid driving licence.
