THE award-winning head of Celestia UK’s Digital Systems team has been recognised for her engineering achievements and her contribution to engineering by being named the University of Strathclyde’s Alumna of the Year 2022.
Eur Ing Dr Carol Marsh, OBE EngD CEng FIET, received the honour at a ceremony held at the University of Strathclyde in Glasgow, Scotland, on 2nd November, the day that also marked National Engineering Day, the annual day that raises public awareness of how engineers make a difference in the world and celebrates how engineers shape the future.
She was given the honour in recognition of her successful career, her appointment as the First Woman Chair of the Institute of Engineering & Technology (IET) Council in 2021, and an OBE in 2020 for her work promoting diversity and inclusion in electronic engineering.

She has had a distinguished career in industry and academia, during which she has gained vast knowledge and experience at senior level and has also taken a lead in encouraging other women to pursue rewarding careers in engineering. She truly deserves recognition and it was fitting that she received it on an occasion held to celebrate National Engineering Day.”
Carol said: “It is a very great honour to be given this award and I am so happy to receive it. I am very thankful to the University of Strathclyde for this recognition. It gives me inspiration and encouragement to do more, not only to shine a light on engineering as a career but also to promote STEM and women engineers. It was a very special day.”
The Alumnus/a of the Year Award is a prestigious accolade given to a former student of the University of Strathclyde, to recognise and celebrate the contributions of its alumni community through individuals whose success sets an inspirational example.
Professor Sir Jim McDonald, Principal and Vice-Chancellor of the University of Strathclyde, said: “Carol is a truly inspiring engineer and someone who has helped to encourage other women to forge careers in engineering and led new ways to tackle the gender imbalance in the engineering profession.
“Throughout her near-40-year career, Carol has amassed a huge wealth of knowledge and industrial experience at a senior level and her incredible contribution to engineering has been widely recognised. We are delighted to honour her with this award.”
National Engineering Day is an annual initiative organised by the Royal Academy of Engineering, designed to change public perceptions of engineering.
