The growing team will continue to support businesses with a wide range of challenges through the provision of advisory and assurance offerings and to help improve achieve their strategic objectives and improve their risk management, governance, and internal control processes.

Chris Milborrow has been promoted to a Digital Senior Manager role and joins Lucy Zhang who joined DRAS in Scotland last year. Both will help to drive growth in the Scottish market for its team led by Claire Roberston, as BDO’s Head of Digital, Risk and Advisory Services in Scotland.

The team’s expansion follows insight from BDO’s bi-monthly Economic Economy survey of mid-market businesses in Scotland which indicated that 40% of Scottish businesses have been victim of a cyber attack in the past, triggering investments in software updates as well as better audit systems and processes. Meanwhile, 19% of businesses said that they expected new technology and AI to positively impact their business, generating growth, driving cost reductions, and improving efficiencies.

Martin Gill, partner and head of BDO Scotland, said: “As a firm we’re committed to investing in people with the expertise that supports the challenges and opportunities facing our clients. Digital is a prevalent, and growing area of focus for businesses of all sizes and across all sectors. Our Digital Risk and Advisory Services team is uniquely placed in the local market to help businesses access quality advice and support to support them to operate safely, effectively, and with confidence amidst a rapidly changing operating environment.”

Claire Robertson, DRAS lead at BDO in Scotland, added: “Our insight clearly shows that businesses in Scotland are at risk from digital threats, yet are excited about what the future holds and the potential presented by new and emerging technology. The expanded DRAS team will be able to support Scottish businesses in their growth plans, advising on everything from supply chain resilience and digital transformation to regulatory compliance.”

The expanded DRAS team is running a series of six webinars between September and November 2023 to help businesses understand key emerging themes and challenges.
