Mr Ross is tasked with building a skilled team and brings extensive experience in delivering commercial projects across sectors including sports and leisure, bonded warehousing, infrastructure, and large-scale residential development. He will recruit for various architecture, design, and support roles from within Scotland.
Ewan Ross said: “The architecture market here in Scotland is robust, with growth driven by strong demand with all of our key cities and beyond. So, it’s great news that we are now bringing the Architects-Group brand and resources to Glasgow to support clients with high-quality resources and top-line expertise.”
Mr Ross will also lead a new marina development near Oban, the proposed Saulmore Bay marina and leisure complex. This development is planned for Ardmucknish Bay, northeast of Oban, and aims to create a major new tourism destination and boost the local economy through new jobs and visitor attractions.
The project will include a 200-boat marina, a boat workshop and yard, a restaurant, a café, retail spaces, artists’ studios, and a community square, alongside a comprehensive wellness facility and holiday lodges.
The Architects-Group, which currently employs a 20-strong workforce, expects turnover to exceed £3.5m by 2027. The company operates other offices in Cardiff, Chester, and Saudi Arabia.
Managing director Tony Harmieson expressed enthusiasm for the expansion; he said: “I’ve had the pleasure of working with Ewan before, so it’s great to have him with us again to spearhead our plans to build the business in Scotland, strengthening our national ambitions and design capabilities.
“Having previously worked in Scotland over a decade ago, moving north of the border with the Architects-Group has always been in my mind. It’s therefore a really exciting time for us to be growing an office around such a talented individual in Ewan.”
Regarding the Saulmore Bay project, Ewan Ross added: “Designed to respond to its rugged coastal setting, the buildings will combine local stone with contemporary standing-seam metal cladding, while renewable energy technologies will help minimise the development’s environmental impact.”
