Alba DRT Inks Multi-Year Deal with Handsling as Official Bike Supplier

30/11/2023

SCOTLAND’S premier all-female cycling team, Alba Development Road Team (DRT), has secured a multi-year sponsorship deal with leading British bike manufacturer Handsling as they gear up for the 2024 season. This partnership, announced on St Andrew’s Day, solidifies Handsling as the official bike supplier for Alba DRT.

The sponsorship deal comes as Alba DRT elevates its status to UCI Continental level for the 2024 season, signifying a significant milestone for Scotland’s only all-female cycling team. Handsling will provide Alba DRT with their top-tier A1R0evo carbon road frame, described as “the ultimate road frame.” Manufactured using Toray T800 carbon, known for its strength and lightweight properties, the A1R0evo is designed to be stiff, robust, and aerodynamic, aligning with the high-performance standards of competitive cycling.

Bob Lyons, Performance Director and Team Manager for Alba DRT, expressed enthusiasm about the collaboration, stating, “We are thrilled to complete the deal with Handsling, which, like us, is a homegrown brand supporting homegrown riders. They have a talented team of their own, and I am sure by bringing the two together we will both enjoy success. The quality of their bikes cannot be underestimated, and they will certainly set us up nicely as we look to gain the advantage over other teams in the upcoming season.”

Simon Whiten, Director at Handsling, highlighted the company’s commitment to supporting emerging talent and praised Alba DRT’s long-term plans and dedication to rider development. Whiten stated, “Handsling has a proud history of supporting emerging talent across the disciplines, and we can’t wait to see the next generation of cycling stars riding our frames.”

Alongside the bike supplier announcement, Alba DRT revealed several changes to its roster for the upcoming season. The team bid farewell to Sophie Lankford, Sophie Enever, and Beth Maciver while welcoming Keira Bond as a full-time member. New additions to the team include Beth Morrow, Abi Plowman, Emma Matthews, and Millie Skinner, with contract extensions for existing members.

The Alba DRT season kicks off with the CiCle Classic on March 17, and the team aims to build on its successes from the previous season. Bob Lyons emphasised the team’s focus on the upcoming year and the anticipation of showcasing their talents on the high-quality bikes provided by Handsling.
