ABERDEENSHIRE-BASED family baker, Murdoch Allan, has acquired Teviotdale Bakery in Dundee, protecting eight jobs and enabling it to further expand its operations across Scotland.

This deal is a significant step forward for the award-winning bakery and marks the first Murdoch Allan location outside Aberdeen and Aberdeenshire. The company currently has six bakery outlets and supplies most of Scotland’s main supermarkets.

Murdoch Allan will continue to provide Teviotdale Bakery’s customers with the quality baked goods that they have come to expect and will be introducing new products. The bakery and its team will also play a key role in supporting Murdoch Allan’s expansion plans.

Teviotdale bakery, based in South Road, Dundee, has been owned by Graham Cuthbert and his family since 1978. It has served the city’s independent shops for nearly 50 years with bread and rolls.

Paul Allan, Managing Director of Murdoch Allan, said: “We have huge respect for the team at Teviotdale Bakery and we are excited to expand our family business to offer Scotland the highest quality bakery goods.

“We know ourselves that employees become an extended part of the family in businesses like ours. That is why we are pleased that this acquisition will retain the jobs of eight members of staff and we will also be creating new job opportunities as part of our expansion plans.

“We are grateful to Teviotdale’s customers for their patience and will be working with them to ensure they receive an excellent experience from everyone at Murdoch Allan.”

Teviotdale bakery and its team will be renamed to Murdoch Allan and will support the existing team based at the company’s headquarters in Hatton baking products for sale in its own bakery outlets in Fraserburgh, Turriff, Hatton, Peterhead, Mintlaw, and Aberdeen favourite, Thains, as well as supermarkets and independent shops.

Murdoch Allan, which is also a family-run business, was established in 1991 and currently employs more than 150 people. It is famous for its Aberdeen Buttery and Aberdeen Pie which is served to Aberdeen Football Club fans on match days.

The company already supplies Asda, Aldi, Coop Local,  Morrisons, and Sainsbury’s with its sought-after Aberdeen butteries, morning rolls, and other baked goods to shelves across stores nationwide. In 2022, Murdoch Allan took home the diamond award for their steak pie at the World Scotch Pie Championships,
