Aberdeen International Airport has set out the next phase of its £2.5 million ABZ Reimagined programme, with larger shops and expanded dining facilities planned for the terminal. The improvements will be delivered in stages ahead of summer 2027.
The WHSmith and InMotion stores located after security will be combined into a single, larger shop creating more retail space. Restaurant facilities will also be expanded to provide additional seating, alongside improvements to the airport’s coffee offering.
The plans follow the appointment of strategic design consultancy Portland Design earlier this year. Working with the airport, the consultancy developed retail design guidelines that are now being used to shape changes to commercial spaces across the terminal.
Craig Norton, head of retail and development at AGS Airports, said: “From enhanced retail facilities and expanded dining space to an improved coffee offering, we’re investing in the areas that matter most to our passengers. As work continues, customers will begin to see the transformation taking shape throughout the terminal.”

Norton said the programme was intended to create a modern airport experience reflecting the ambitions of north-east Scotland and the expectations of travellers. The airport says the changes will give passengers more choice and greater comfort before their flights.
Competitive tenders remain ongoing for several retail and food-and-drink opportunities within the programme. The airport expects to announce further details of future operators and brands in due course.
