Turing Fest 2019 introduces series of small group and training workshops

For the first time ever Turing Fest attendees will have the opportunity to get hands on and learn in small interactive group workshops with the launch of the Turing Fest 2019 workshop programme.

Run by industry veterans, including, Chris Messina the inventor of the hashtag, LeanUX author Jeff Gothelf and Meri Williams CTO at Monzo, the specialist workshops have very limited spaces which expect to sell out fast.

Turing Fest 2019 is one of Europe’s leading cross-functional tech conference, designed to bring together everyone involved in building and scaling high-growth, high-impact technology businesses — from engineers to investors, designers to marketers. The main conference takes place at the Edinburgh International Conference Centre from 28-29 August 2019, and will host 65 speakers, an audience of close to 3,000 attendees and a packed programme of keynotes, panels, parties and fringe events, alongside a buzzing expo featuring some of Europe’s most exciting technology businesses.

The Turing Fest workshop series will run on 27th August at the Sheraton Grand Hotel and includes the following workshops;

Becoming an emotionally fit entrepreneur – run by veteran Silicon Valley UX designer Chris Messina and clinical psychologist Dr Emily Anhalt, this workshop addresses the mental health and “emotional fitness” side of startups and tech companies. Founders are 50% more likely to report having a mental health condition; 65% of failed startups point to cofounder conflict as a reason they did not succeed. This workshop offers founders, managers and startup employees practical tools and tactics for building successful and emotionally fit leaders and teams.

Women’s confidence training – run by Manyminds and Roar Trading founder Kirsty Hulse this workshop takes lessons from the fundamentals of neuroscience, Kirsty’s own experience presenting in corporate environments coupled with learnings from her surprisingly successful stint in stand up comedy. Designed specifically for women, this workshop aims to help people understand not only how to present better on stage and have effective conversations, but also to let go of their inhibitions, find the fun in failure and to create the confidence to put themselves out there.

Creating Killer Content Campaigns, And Getting Away With It – run by Aiden Carroll, the original Google Squared guy, and a man who has trained over 65,000 marketers, from over 75 countries. In this workshop the focus is on the scalable process that is content throughout your relationship with your customer — not to neglect a dash of kick ass campaign fanfare thrown in for good measure.

Lean, Agile & Design Thinking: Principles over process – run by Jeff Gothelf, author of Lean UX, and Sense and Respond. Software has changed the way companies interact with their customers, employees, and other stakeholders. This masterclass looks at what that means for businesses, and the teams within them building essential software; how schedules are structured, how to get multiple teams working together fluidly when the goal is continuous delivery. Jeff will guide you through how to keep your people motivated and incentivized when the finish line isn’t the end.

Building High Performing Teams for Product Managers – run by Kate Leto, renowned product management coach and former Head of Product at Moo. Product managers have the opportunity for great impact on the success of their teams, the products they produce and their organisation as a whole. At the same time, the evolving nature of team in today’s complex environments presents a huge challenge to our traditional concept of what a team is, its purpose, needs, and ways-of-working.

Be a brilliant people developer (Friday 30th, 9am-5pm) – run by Meri Williams, CTO at Monzo Bank. Much like technical skills, there is both science and art, theory and experience, to becoming good at leading, managing, coaching, mentoring & developing people. In this full-day workshop we’ll look at some of that theory, share experiences and boost your ability to develop yourself and others.

All workshop sessions are half day events, other than the Meri Williams workshop which runs for a full day on the 30th August.
