FULL-service law firm Thorntons has appointed a new Partner to its residential property team as part of a strengthening of its services in the sector. Joanne Grimmond, a respected and well-established legal figure in the Scottish residential property sector, joined Thorntons earlier this month [May] as a Partner.

Joanne will be continuing to service her extensive client base developed in her years working and living in Perth, whilst strengthening and adding to Thorntons’ capability in her native Dundee.

Formerly a Partner and Head of Perth with Blackadders, Joanne has nearly twenty years of experience in the Scottish residential property sector. Joanne has extensive experience advising on purchases, sales, creation and discharge of securities, transfers of title, and private residential tenancies.

Born in Broughty Ferry, Joanne successfully completed the globally recognised STEP Diploma in Trusts and Estates in Scotland in 2022, further enhancing her knowledge on succession planning and the mitigation of inheritance tax in relation to heritable assets.

Joanne said: “I’m delighted to be joining a firm as progressive as Thorntons where clients have access to an extensive range of residential property and other personal legal services. In a competitive and often crowded property market, it’s so rewarding to help people secure their dream home, whether it be a first-time buyer or a growing family, and I’m looking forward to working alongside the team here to deliver a first-class service.

“It’s been a busy first few weeks meeting my new colleagues. As a Partner, I hope to encompass the firm’s values in my leadership mentality and be a supportive and positive mentor for the team.”

Lesley Larg, Managing Partner, Thorntons, said: “Joanne is a highly regarded practitioner whose specialist knowledge and years of experience will reinforce our reputation as a leading law firm in the residential property sector.

“Her practical and commercially minded approach combined with a strong focus on client care perfectly fits our business ethos and I have no doubt that her appointment will bolster and enhance the client offering of our residential property team.”

Headquartered in Dundee, the firm now has 13 offices ranging from Glasgow, Edinburgh and Montrose to St Andrews, Arbroath and Perth.
