A senior sustainability expert from Harley Haddow has been recognised for her incredible research efforts by the leading professional body for building services engineers.

Receiving a prestigious accolade at the CIBSE (The Chartered Institution of Building Services Engineers) Symposium 2024, Shweta was awarded the honour for the presentation of her paper, which explored the nuances of designing Net Zero Carbon Buildings.

Having joined Harley Haddow’s Building Performance and Sustainability division in December last year, Shweta has brought her expertise to the forefront as the team continues to expand their offering.

Her paper, entitled “Paving the Way to Net Zero Carbon Standards: A Guide to Designing Net Zero Carbon Buildings in Regions Lacking a Carbon Assessment Framework,” saw her presented with Most Significant Contribution to the Art and Science of Building Services Engineering award.

Her success comes after a fruitful period for the engineering consultancy who were recently awarded the Best Sustainability Project Award at the annual ACE awards for their work on Glasgow’s renowned event venue, SWG3. Harley Haddow has been nominated Best Mechanical and Electrical Consultancy at The Grafters Awards for a second year in a row whilst also being named in BUILD Magazine’s Design & Build Awards as Best Nationwide Sustainable Engineering Consultancy Firm 2024.

Shweta adds this achievement to a range of career accomplishments to date, having been awarded Chartered Institute of Building Service Engineer’s (CIBSE) Young Modeller Award in December 2022, along with winning a gold-medal for her group presentation from Timber Development UK for Climate responsive design in July 2023.

Shweta Salvankar, Senior Building Performance and Sustainability Engineer at Harley Haddow said: “I am incredibly proud to have received this prestigious award. It was made all the more special to be recognised among my industry peers, and also to have received it at my alma mater, the Welsh School of Architecture, Cardiff University, made it all the more poignant.

“This was where I truly started my own journey, and it meant a lot to receive it there. Being at Harley Haddow has also given me tremendous support as I’ve pursued this research, and I would like to thank the team for their encouragement.”

Ian Chalk, at Harley Haddow, said: “We are all incredibly proud of Shweta, who has achieved so much in her career so far, and continues to fly high. Being recognised by CIBSE is no mean feat, and we all know how incredibly hard she has worked to get here. We’re delighted to have her expertise in our team and look forward to seeing her grow even more and inspire others with her passion for sustainability.”
