A newly established factory in Dunbar is manufacturing an award-winning motorcycle safety product that helps riders see better.
Visorcat, a unique wash/wipe device that fits over the motorcyclist’s glove, is now being supplied to retailers in the UK and is attracting interest from much further afield, says managing director Jill Boulton.
“We believe we could be the first assembly plant to open in Dunbar since the cement plant opened in 1963,” said Ms Boulton.
“Visorcat is now available in quite a few stores in Scotland and we’re looking for more stockists across the UK. There is international interest in this technology, both from the motorcycle industry and from the health and safety industry too.”
Visorcat, which received a road safety accolade from the road safety and training organisation IAM RoadSmart, is a flexible glove-mounted device that comprises a wet sponge, fed by a fluid reservoir and covered by a flap. When the rider wipes one way across the visor, the sponge washes away dirt, flies, road spray, rain or other debris. When the rider wipes the other way, twin wipers remove any residue.
The company, which currently employs one assembly worker, is supported by Business Gateway and Scottish Enterprise.
“Visorcat takes a zero tolerance approach to visor dirt,” said Jill. “It enables the rider to remove dirt before it has a chance to build up, keeping vision clear at all times and increasing confidence and safety. It’s amazing on the Scottish midges at this time of year!”
The company is putting together a funding round to fuel its growth plans and is looking for additional investors.
