Recycle Scotland awarded Environmental Champion by West Lothian Chamber of Commerce

27/11/2023

SCOTLAND’S leading workplace furniture recycling organisation, Recycle Scotland has been awarded Environmental Champion at the West Lothian Chamber of Commerce’s Business Excellence Awards.

The award recognises Recycle Scotland’s positive environmental impact by providing cost-effective, sustainable solutions for businesses with redundant workplace furniture. As well as recycling and selling pre-used furniture to other businesses, Recycle Scotland repairs and re-engineers products to extend their life and ensure they are fit for purpose.

Over the last year, Recycle Scotland has worked with organisations such as the University of Dundee, University of St Andrews and Almond Housing Association, to relocate over 3,000 items of unwanted furniture and save approx. 225,000kg of furniture from being sent to landfill.

Alongside its sustainable workplace furniture solution, Recycle Scotland has created a culture of sustainability within its organisation. By optimising its transport fleet and sharing resources with partner division Corporate Moves, Recycle Scotland has reduced its carbon footprint and maximised efficiencies.

Drew Carmichael, Director of Recycle Scotland, said: “Since our inception, we have remained committed to creating a zero waste and circular approach to workplace furniture. Therefore, we are very proud to receive the Environmental Champion Award. It is not only a testament to the hard work of our team to get the business to where it is today, but it is also evidence that we are on the right track and making a positive impact. We look forward to working with more sectors and regions across Scotland to further drive our sustainability mission.”

As a division of Space Solutions, Recycle Scotland provides sustainable and environmental furnishing strategies within the workplace. In 2022, Recycle Scotland worked with businesses across Scotland to save 255,000kg of furniture from landfill, reusing or recycling over 97% of furniture into component parts.
