New owners secure future for trio of north Scottish care homes

CHRISTIE & CO, a specialist business property adviser, has successfully facilitated the sale of Craigard Care Group, a portfolio comprising three established care homes situated in Aberdeen City, Aberdeenshire, and Moray. The sale was conducted on behalf of the joint administrators, Graham Smith and Tom MacLennan of FRP Advisory.

Founded in 1996, the three homes—Wakefield House Care Home in Buckie, Weston View Care Home in Keith, and Riverside Nursing Home in Aberdeen—offer a total of 111 private rooms with en-suite facilities. The homes provide a comprehensive range of care services, including specialist nursing, dementia care, respite, and palliative care.

Weston View Care Home in Keith and Wakefield House Care Home in Cullen have been acquired by Parklands Care Limited, which operates an additional 10 care homes across Moray and the Highlands. Riverside Care Home in Aberdeen has been purchased by Renaissance Care Limited, a group managing 16 care homes across Scotland, with four located in Aberdeen.

Planned Improvements:

  • Wakefield House (Parklands Care Limited):
    • Widening the pathway and entrance to improve accessibility.
    • Creating a new sunroom extension for a larger communal space.
    • Upgrading laundry facilities.
    • Introducing a new hairdressing salon.
    • Improving staff changing facilities.
  • Weston View (Parklands Care Limited):
    • Introducing a new café, doubling as an event space.
    • Creating a more welcoming entrance area.
    • Expanding the home’s four day rooms.
    • Adding balconies on the first floor to provide outdoor space.
  • Riverside Nursing Home (Renaissance Care Limited):
    • Upgrading electrics for safety.
    • Initiating a redecoration program for a modern aesthetic.
    • Developing layout plans to maximise space, adding day rooms, communal areas, shower rooms, and storage.
Weston View

Ron Taylor, Managing Director at Parklands Ltd, expressed satisfaction with the acquisition, emphasising the importance of securing the long-term future of the homes and ensuring continuity of care for residents. Robert Kilgour, Chairman of Renaissance Care, welcomed Riverside into the group, highlighting the commitment to enhancing the living experience for residents.

Martin Daw, Senior Director at Christie & Co, commented on the unique approach to the administration process, securing management contracts to enable the new providers to operate immediately on the day of administration. This strategy provides assurance to staff about job security and comfort to families and residents.

The sale details, including the purchase price, remain undisclosed.
