SCOTLAND’s innovation and data sectors will have access to world-leading geospatial information thanks to a novel partnership announced today (16th December) between ScotlandIS and The Association for Geographic Information (AGI), which represent the interests of the UK’s geospatial industry.

The strategic alliance is the first of its kind to bring ScotlandIS together with a UK industry body and will create new collaborative opportunities and sharing of ideas.

The partnership will bolster the relationships between Scotland’s thriving data, geospatial, space and technology sectors and UK geospatial to help tackle global issues, such as climate change.

The pandemic has highlighted the importance of location data and services to decision making. The power of location data transcends every industry sector and this important alliance between AGI and ScotlandIS brings location into the centre-stage of information systems in Scotland.  This will benefit users, developers and the Scottish economy through ideas and innovation.

Jane Morrison-Ross, CEO of ScotlandIS said: “This new strategic alliance is a huge opportunity to bring together Scotland’s technical knowhow with location data to truly transform services.

“Scotland has a growing geospatial and space sector, with almost 100 companies working in these areas and working globally. Partnering with AGI will support and foster innovation in Scotland, supporting our ‘space race’ to help tackle both national and global issues.”

Bruce Gittings, Chair of AGI Scotland said: “I am greatly excited by this new alliance between AGI and ScotlandIS, which will share ideas, opportunities, and good practice between technology innovators.

“In these challenging yet exciting times, a closer bond between our communities fostered through discussion and joint events will bring new ventures, new collaborations, and new opportunities.”
