SCOTTISH research and development (R&D) tax credit specialist, ZLX Business Solutions, has revealed ambitious growth plans after opening a new office in the Granite City.

The company has moved into state-of-the-art premises at neospace, located on the city’s Riverside Drive, which creates a platform for future growth. Aberdeen and the wider north-east is viewed as a key strategic area amid rising demand for its services, particularly from innovative firms operating in the energy, manufacturing, food & drink, and agricultural sectors.

ZLX is led by an experienced management team, including experts in legal, accountancy and technical disciplines, who identify projects eligible for tax relief and navigate clients through the claims process.

With headquarters in Glasgow, the company has grown rapidly in the past year. Headcount has risen from 21 to 34, bolstering all areas of the business – including its direct sales, indirect sales, and partnership programme.

ZLX expects to recruit additional members of staff to further strengthen key frontline positions and enhance its wealth of technical knowledge, bringing overall headcount to 40 by the end of the year whilst also significantly expanding its pool of external consultants and network of partners.

This includes at least three new hires for the Aberdeen office; covering business development, sales support, and administrative functions.

This level of growth comes against a backdrop of increasingly successful returns for customers. ZLX helped clients generate income from R&D tax credit claims worth more than £31million during the financial year ending March 31st, 2022 – an increase of 72% from £18million the previous year.

The company expects to exceed £40million in income generated for clients during the period ending March 2023.

Founder and CEO of ZLX Business Solutions, Stephen McCallion, commented: “We’re extremely pleased to have opened an office in Aberdeen and expect that having a strong local presence will allow us to drive new business and partnership opportunities across the city and surrounding areas.

“From the initial meetings we’ve held with local entrepreneurs and organisations, it’s clear to see the passion and determination shared across the business community to grow and strengthen the regional economy for the benefit of everyone who lives and works here.

“We’re looking forward to further engaging with key stakeholders over the coming months and years so that we can play a small role in the continued success and evolution of the north-east.

“Thanks to the hard work of our fantastic team across Scotland, we have been fortunate enough to experience a strong period of growth which has allowed us to reinvest back into the business and create new job opportunities for candidates who possesses the right skills and attitude.”

In addition to the company’s recruitment drive, ZLX has promoted a key member of staff with business development manager, Jack Avery, moving to the role of partnership sales manager.

With a strong track record in sales and account management for clients ranging from start-ups to
FTSE 100 companies, Jack will have responsibility for cultivating new and existing client relationships whilst further developing the firm’s network of trusted partners including accountants, solicitors and recruitment consultants.

Jack Avery said: “It’s an exciting time for the company as we continue our ambitious growth journey with the support of our ever-expanding team and network of clients, consultants and partners throughout the country.

“I’ve been greatly impressed by the businesses and individuals that I’ve met in the Aberdeen area as well as the reception we’ve had since opening the new office. I’m looking forward to working closely together with north-east businesses to better understand their key challenges and identify ways in which ZLX can support them achieve their goals.”
