KTC Edibles Ltd (KTC), the UK’s largest supplier of edible oils, has committed to the Cardowan Creameries Ltd (Cardowan) site in Glasgow – unveiling plans to double capacity and increase capabilities through investment in the facility and the workforce.
KTC acquired Cardowan Creameries in March 2023 as part of its ongoing expansion plans, and now has ambitious plans to develop the Glasgow-based business through a seven-figure investment in the site, new machinery and the ongoing expansion of the workforce in Glasgow.
Paresh Mahta, CEO of KTC Edibles, explained:
“We acquired Cardowan to grow the business. Cardowan has a strong reputation in the food industry, an amazing history in Glasgow, and the team there has a huge amount of experience and skill.
“Now we’re building on this successful heritage as we aim to fulfil the huge potential of the business by providing the investment it needs to grow. As part of the KTC family, Cardowan will benefit from our enhanced buying power, and our extensive customer base.
“The goal is to double the capacity of the site by investing in the premises and the people – introducing new capabilities and building the team in Glasgow. As part of this, we’ll also be investing in the sustainability of the products for the benefit of the planet, and to position the business for future success in a more environmentally conscious marketplace.”
Since the acquisition earlier this year, KTC has appointed a new General Manager, Christopher Holland – who will head up the day-to-day operations at the Glasgow site. Future plans include significant investment in the development of new bakery fat products for both the Cardowan and KTC brands.
Established in 1930 as an independent family business based in Scotland, Cardowan is a specialist margarine manufacturer, supplying over 20,000 metric tonnes of margarine, shortenings and bread fats annually to manufacturers and wholesalers across the UK and internationally.
Over its 90+ year history, Cardowan has developed specialist techniques and methods to create some of the best bakery products in the world, including both vegan and RSPO-certified sustainable products.
