Aberdeen-based John Mutch Building Services has acquired long-established local plumbing business Pirie and Hunter and is set to move into larger premises, paving the way for continued growth.
John Mutch is an all-trades building services company which offers building, joinery, electrical, plumbing and property maintenance expertise, including slaters and a locksmith.
The previous owner of Pirie and Hunter, Jim Tosh, recently retired and the arrangement sees its customer base transferring to John Mutch, which employs 24 people.
The company has also purchased new commercial premises and will relocate from its current base in Station Road, Cults, to 218 Holburn Street from Wednesday (March 8).
John Mutch Building Services reported turnover of more than £2.05million, with sales in the current financial year already up 5% on last year.
The company recently secured a new contract to install 72 showers into student accommodation in Aberdeen, and will continue to build its client base in the domestic and commercial sectors.
Owner John Mutch said: “We are pleased to have acquired Pirie and Hunter and saw this as an opportunity to grow the business while offering additional services to their existing 1,200 customers as well as continuing to provide a high standard of plumbing solutions that they have enjoyed over the years.
“Although we have always enjoyed a steady level of trade, with a large percentage of our work coming from repeat business and referrals, we are of course currently operating in a challenging market.
“We are hopeful that the acquisition and our new premises on Holburn Street will drive new business and allow us to continue to expand our workforce as well as the range of top quality services we offer.”
