Ingenious Audio secures funding for Wi-Fi audio expansion

30/11/2023

INGENIOUS AUDIO, an Edinburgh based company, has successfully secured a funding round to advance its patented Wi-Fi Audio technology, known as “Fi-Live™.” The six-figure investment, with contributions from existing backers Kelvin Capital and the Scottish Enterprise, positions Ingenious Audio to evolve into both a technology platform provider and a product company.

Fi-Live™ stands out by offering superior audio quality over Wi-Fi compared to traditional Bluetooth. The technology ensures higher quality, longer range, and faster transmission, seamlessly connecting to standard Wi-Fi systems in devices such as PCs, tablets, and phones. Its applications extend to diverse sectors, including live music, TV speakers, gaming headphones, and performance applications like VR and Hi-Fi speakers.

The funding round coincides with the appointment of Steve McMahon as part of Ingenious Audio’s leadership team. With over 30 years of experience in sales, marketing, and product management within the high-tech sector, McMahon played a key role in the trade sale of Scottish technology company Optoscribe to Intel.

John Crawford, Chief Executive of Ingenious Audio, expressed enthusiasm about the strategic addition of McMahon to the team, emphasising his expertise in generating targeted demand. The move signifies Ingenious Audio’s transition from a product-centric company in a specific niche to a broader technology provider.

Steve McMahon highlighted the challenges users face with the removal of headphone and power connectors in mobile phones, making interaction difficult. He underscored the potential of Fi-Live™ in future applications for real-time audio streaming, particularly in music, entertainment, and communications, leveraging the advanced data capabilities of next-generation Wi-Fi.

Kelvin Capital, a Glasgow-based investment syndicate, expressed delight in continuing its support for Ingenious Audio. The funding opens avenues for new licensing partnerships for Jack and exploring the application of Fi-Live technology in Wireless TV speakers, Gaming, and VR.

Ingenious Audio, founded in 2010 and headquartered in Edinburgh with design teams in Glasgow, comprises a dedicated team of audio engineers and enthusiasts. Kelvin Capital Ltd, with over 340 UK and international angel investors, has invested over £107 million to date across its diverse portfolio of 20 companies. The syndicate brings extensive knowledge of the early-stage investment market and maintains a robust network of industry professionals to support strategic planning and due diligence.

The funding injection propels Ingenious Audio into an exciting phase of growth and innovation, positioning itself as a key player in the evolution of audio technology.
