LONG-standing Glasgow-based specialists in industrial strapping, banding and load securing equipment, Reid Brothers UK, is expanding with support of a six-figure funding sum from UKSE.

Established in 1868, this is the third funding round UKSE has provided with previous support enabling a management buy-out (MBO) in 2015 when then general manager, Danny Rooney, solely acquired the business.

UKSE also supported the firm in 2019 to help facilitate its move to larger premises at Ibrox Business Park, doubling its footprint to 10,000 sq ft complete with a high-quality fit out to enable larger stock holding.  Now the third round of funding will allow Reid Brothers UK to purchase further laser printing machines following growing demand from customers seeking bespoke security seals.

It will also provide financial confidence to Danny and his team who stock one of the largest ranges of industrial steel banding and strapping equipment for customers both locally and across the globe. Reid Brothers UK supplies a broad range of sectors including food & drink, oil and gas, timber, steel, manufacturing, freight and scaffolding industries, and hopes to reach new customers south of the border with its most-recent expansion plans.

Reid Brothers currently employs nine staff and plans to grow the headcount by at least three positions over the next 12 months in both customer service and laser machine operator roles.

Danny Rooney, Managing Director at Reid Brothers UK, said: “With more than 154 years of experience, the success of Reid Brothers UK comes down to the strong relationships that we have built with customers. Whilst that relationship is testament to the high-quality products and customer service we provide, the backing from UKSE at landmark moments has provided us with the confidence to continuously grow and diversify.

“Moving to our new premises in the height of the pandemic was challenging for obvious reasons however we are pleased to have settled in well, whilst simultaneously maintaining sustainable growth.

“The beauty of having larger premises is that we are able to stock a larger range of products which often have long lead times if ordered online. Subsequently, this continues to attract large customer bases and the funding from UKSE will significantly help our ability to stock new products and maintain business stability.”

Scott Webb, Regional Manager at UKSE, said: “Reid Brothers UK is a prime example of a successful company that has worked with UKSE to accelerate its ambitions and go from strength to strength. Having interjected funding support at various milestones since 2015, I am pleased to see Danny and his team diversify the firm whilst continuing its long-standing commitment to providing unrivalled customer support in a niche market.

“We are looking forward to continuing our relationship with the team and wish them all the best as the business embarks on its next chapter.”
