OXYGEN Conservation has agreed the purchase of 11,390 acres of Langholm Moor, known as Blackburn and Hartsgarth, from Buccleuch.

Buccleuch has previously sold 760 acres of Langholm Moor to Newcastleton District Community Trust and 5,200 acres to the Langholm Initiative.

Crawford Mackay of Galbraith, who advised Oxygen Conservation commented: “It’s a privilege to secure Blackburn & Hartsgarth for Oxygen Conservation, which is another excellent addition to their growing portfolio of land holdings.”

Oxygen Conservation aims to work with Local communities, their team of ecologists and environmental experts, on the ground specialists and those that know the land best to implement conservation programmes and regenerative agriculture, restore natural processes and undertake sustainable development.

Rich Stockdale, Managing Director of Oxygen Conservation commented:

“We look forward to listening and sharing ideas with our new neighbours as we develop a plan for this unique area that builds on the excellent environmental work already delivered by Buccleuch on site, and at the Tarras Valley Nature Reserve, to deliver a positive environmental and social impact”.

Galbraith has purchased significant landholdings for individuals, funds and institutions in the last 12 months, for conservation, amenity, forestry and natural capital purposes.
