Ex Mercer senior partner and international D&I lead joins board of Scottish start-up

EDINBURGH-based diversity tech start-up Spktral has announced Robert Baker, Ex Mercer Senior Partner, and International Diversity and Inclusion Lead, is joining the Board as a Non-Executive Director.

Spktral launched in November last year with a funding round backed by a number of angel investors including Paul Atkinson, chair of Taranata Group plc. The company has developed software that helps organisations make better people decisions with their diversity data and drive business performance through diverse talent.

Spktral is passionate about helping organisations empower equal futures. They transform HR and payroll data into insightful pay gap analysis and their current focus is gender, ethnicity and disability pay gaps. These insights enable their clients to make evidence-based decisions about their most valuable asset – their people.

Organisations with 250 or more employees have been required, by law, to publish an annual gender pay gap report since 2017. This year, due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the UK government suspended that requirement. However, pressure is mounting on them to reintroduce gender, alongside ethnicity pay gap reporting, with 130,000 people signing a petition and calls from prominent business leaders.

Robert Baker comments: “I am delighted to be joining the Board. Spktral has a clear purpose and mission which I share: to support organisations in driving equality, diversity, and inclusion in their workforce – this has never mattered more than now! We make a difference by empowering leaders with the quantitative and qualitative diversity data that they need in order to drive meaningful change.”

Spktral co-founder and CEO Anthony Horrigan added, “I am immensely proud to welcome Rob to the Board of Spktral. His insights, energy, and humour are pure gold dust and he brings his experience to bear with humility and purpose. Our team is ready to empower more organisations to drive the changes that are so desperately needed.”
