Cullen Sustainable Packaging has invested £5 million in its Glasgow manufacturing operations to increase capacity as demand for plastic alternatives continues to rise.
The business, which produces around 0.5 billion units annually, is targeting a doubling of output as it scales to meet growing demand across sectors including food and drink, medical, industrial and ecommerce.
Central to the expansion is the launch of Cullen’s new Moulded Fibre Machine 8000, a proprietary production line designed and built in-house. The machine ramped up quickly following its launch, supporting increased output as order volumes continue to grow.
Cullen’s integrated model — combining corrugate and moulded fibre manufacturing under one roof — positions the company uniquely in the UK packaging market. Its closed loop recycling system processes more than 8,000 tonnes of corrugate waste annually, feeding material back into production.
The investment comes as Extended Producer Responsibility (EPR) regulations reshape the packaging landscape, accelerating the shift away from plastic and driving demand for sustainable alternatives. Cullen is also seeing strong early growth in newer markets such as home fragrance.
In Case You Missed It:
Maureen Stevenson, Head of Marketing at Cullen Sustainable Packaging, said: “This investment is a response to real, sustained demand from our customers. The new machine ramped up quickly following launch, and we are already planning the next phase of expansion. That is what growth-led investment looks like in practice, not speculation, but response.”
Cullen, which serves customers across 35 countries from its 14-acre Glasgow site, is planning further capacity additions in the coming months to support continued growth.
