Jamieson & Carry, the independent, family-owned and run jewellery business founded in Aberdeen in 1733, is celebrating this week (Monday 28th April) as it not only marks the start of its 100-years campaign but is also awarded an outstanding contribution award.
The Jamieson & Carry team received The Archibald Simpson Award at the Northern Star Business Awards last week (Friday 25th April). The award, named after the city’s most famous architect, was given to the individual or company that is making an outstanding contribution to the regeneration of Union Street and Aberdeen City Centre.
Philip Carry, Partner at Jamieson & Carry, says, “Last week’s award win is timely given that we launched our 100-years campaign. We are a testament to the fact that Union Street and Aberdeen can be a good place for a business. Jamieson & Carry has been a fixture at 142 Union Street since 1925, and my brother Christopher and I are the 4th generation of the Carry family to run the business. It was a real privilege to accept The Archibald Simpson Award in recognition of our continued investment in our city centre presence.”
Jamieson & Carry’s connection to the city centre spans generations. The first member of the Carry family involved was William Whyte Carry, who apprenticed to ‘George Jamieson and Son’ in 1881. In 1899, William George Jamieson passed away, and the business was sold to William Carry in 1907. The Carry family has been the sole owners ever since. In 1925, William Whyte Carry made the pivotal decision to purchase and occupy 142 Union Street.
Last September, Christopher & Philip Carry opened their new and expanded Jamieson & Carry store, which now incorporates 142 and 136 Union Street. This was part of a significant £4.5 million investment into Jamieson & Carry’s city centre presence. This began with the full refresh of the external façade of the store to re-point and refurbish the original windows along with a full building clean which was carried out in close consultation with Aberdeen City Council and Historic Scotland, to ensure the preservation of the original stonework.
This was followed by the opening of a new TAG Heuer watch boutique which is run by Jamieson & Carry, located adjacent at 132 Union Street. The boutique, which was the first of its kind in Aberdeen, provides the opportunity to browse a wider collection of TAG Heuer watches than ever before.
The final stage of the investment programme was the opening of their expanded store at 142 Union Street which more than doubled in size, includes a new Rolex showroom, Scotland’s largest Patek Philippe showroom and the first TUDOR Watch ‘shop in shop’ in Aberdeen. The Carry’s also fully redesigned the in-store jewellery and engagement ring experience during the upgrade.

The 100-years campaign, which runs from April to November 2025, includes a new dedicated section on the Jamieson & Carry website where customers are encouraged to share their stories of the special Jamieson & Carry pieces they have purchased or received over the years, these will then feature in the customer gallery. There is also a new history section which dates to the origins of the business in 1733. Jamieson & Carry will host a special customer event later this year and there is a range of new 100-year branded merchandise in-store including re-useable canvas bags.
