KPMG enjoy further growth in Scotland

KPMG welcome a few of the latest recruits

KPMG UK has promoted 84 people across its five Scottish offices as it prepares for further growth.

The firm, which employs more than 1,200 people in Scotland, has promoted 51 employees to Assistant Manager grade, 17 to Manager level, 14 have been promoted to Senior Managers, and there are 2 new Directors: Director of Indirect Tax, Katie Aghabala, based in Edinburgh and Glasgow-based Deal Advisory Director Chris Malloch.

Newly promoted Manager, Fahd Bari, is part of the firm’s Enterprise team, working in pioneering new co-working space The Clockwise Building. The team assists disruptive new companies, providing them with access to senior-level corporate advice and funding support.

Fahd said: “The work KPMG is doing with start-ups here at Clockwise is pretty reflective of our new approach to doing business. We’ve recognised that disruptive new technology and innovation are at the heart of future growth, and we want to do our bit to help future Scottish success stories flourish.

“I’m delighted to have been promoted to Manager grade. It’s a team effort, especially when you’re working in small hubs, like the Enterprise team in Glasgow. We’re working hard every day, but we’re passionate about what we do, and every one of us enjoys helping our clients – whether they’re early-stage start-ups, or successful global multinationals – to make a positive difference and achieve long-term sustainable growth.”

The promotions are a key part of KPMG’s growth strategy in Scotland, aimed at providing clients with a future-focused range of services and collaborative support and advice.

Catherine Burnet, Senior Partner in Scotland, commented: “Every one of the 1,200-plus team members at KPMG in Scotland have worked tirelessly over the last year, helping our clients to grow in particularly challenging conditions. Our passion for growth and building trust shines through the work each individual carries out on a daily basis. On headcount, we are the largest professional services firm in Scotland, and with that achievement comes responsibility. We’re priding ourselves on creating a robust, healthy environment to assist our clients as they look to achieve their ambitions – regardless of market conditions – and I’m delighted to recognise the hard work of so many of our Scottish employees this year.”

Across the UK, KPMG has made a number of senior promotions, including the appointment of 49 partners and 196 directors.

This year’s partner promotions and external hires see the firm make further progress towards its inclusion and diversity targets. Fifty percent of colleagues promoted to partner are female, an increase of 14 percentage points on last year’s figures, while 15 percent of those promoted are from a BAME background, an increase of five percentage points. In addition 48 percent of external hires are female and ten percent are from a BAME background.

Bill Michael, Chair and Senior Partner of KPMG in the UK, said: “Talent is at the heart of our strategy. We’re committed to attracting and retaining the very best people and our promotions reflect this. By attracting the best to our partnership we are even better placed to deliver the highest quality work for our clients and help them with their most important challenges. Diversity of perspectives and backgrounds is critical to our success. While we’re making progress in a number of areas, we have more to do. I am proud of the strength of our commitment and focus to further develop the diversity and inclusion of our workforce.

“We are committed to continually developing and progressing our people in their careers.  Across our business we’re promoting more than 700 of our people, which reflects the confidence we have in our potential to grow, and help our clients.”
